It was on a whim this evening. It has been on my mind since his birthday but tonight was the night, for me at least. He was more interested in playing with sticks than taking pictures but that is 2. But we made it into a game, played, had fun and boy did I get the smiles. This is my little E at 2. Smiles, giggles and stick fights. Canon 5DIII || Sigma 35 ART
It was a mommy-son date with a mission in mind. A conversation we had weeks ago had spurred this trip. In a moment of exasperation at his refusal to eat his leftover mouse pancakes, I gave him a lecture. I looked at him picking at his pancakes and had that pang of concern that he wouldn't get it. He would never know how lucky we are...how so many don't have the things that we do. How do I raise him to understand and find compassion for others...to find gratitude in what he has. I told him about how families, right in our community and all over the world don't have enough to eat. They go to bed hungry. They don't have enough money to put food on their table. We talked about sharing what we have with someone else. So I suggested that using his "give" money jar, we could go to the store and buy food with his money to donate to the food bank in Strongsville. A week went by and life was crazy, but he continued to bring it up. I knew { lil bro } would be at the sitters and we could focus on the task at hand. We had lunch together, just us two, and then went to our shopping, adding to the cart all the items from their needs list. He opened his wallet, paying the cashier the $12 he had saved. When we took the food the pantry a mother and her little girl, not much younger than Vance came out with milk and groceries. Quietly in the privacy of our car, I talked him him about how that little girl needed food today, and people giving when the have it, is how the world is supposed to work. We need to do this more often. iphone 6
He rode the school bus for the first time yesterday, and although I had my camera, I missed the moment when he stepped on the bus. Today I was sure to catch it. We waited patiently at the bus stop, only a few houses down from ours. The boys kept their eye out, every time you could hear a car engine down the road. The best part is that when he stepped on the bus, he was sure to turn around and wave to us and yell "goodbye" before climbing into his bus seat. He's my sweet boy. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
I love our backyard and recently the boys do too when it comes to digging in the dirt and the mulch. It was a nice evening to sit in the adirondack chairs, catch up on some twitter (for my love of course, as I have yet to jump on the twitter bandwagon) and watch the boys with their shovels, rakes and trucks - dirty hands and dirty toes. It was a discovery sort of day. We packed the boys in the car and decided to explore Berea which is just up the road. Their little downtown always looks cute but we happened to stumble upon this beautiful little park. A lake, gazebo and some lovely pathways. People fishing off the banks. It really is a nice little spot. I love exploring new places and we have done that this year more than any other. The boys are at the perfect age for this. iphone 6
2 years ago I would have told you that he would be the one to cry when mommy walked away on his first day of school, that he would be shy and worried about the unknown, but in fact, I was the only one with tears rolling down my cheeks after drop off. He is ready. He is a Kindergartener! I am so lucky to be his mama and watch all these amazing milestones. And I am lucky to be the one to walk him to school each day and be the first one to hear about what he did at school, even if the answer is "I don't know mom...lot's of things". Happy first day buddy! I (we) did great. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
He helped { baby little } by pulling the stickers off of the sheets so { baby little } could position them on his paper, just the way he wanted. My heart. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
We went to the jump yard and they loved it. A gigantic display of inflatables and little tikes toys is bliss for two little people. iphone 6

What now?It truly is a labor of love each day to search for just the right image(s)...the ones that represent our daily lives...edit them, organize them, write about them. What a wonderful experience and an amazing amount of growth this year for me. It has been a great journey but one I am not jumping into again just yet. I am going to take a breather, let the dust settle and let inspiration find me and lead me to my next project. For now, I will continue to post about our lives but only when I feel it.
