It's never too early to teach your kid how to pack his own lunch. Said the mom who avoids packing lunches like the plague. He still needs Industrial (the name of our stool...it's a long story, please don't judge) and when he uses it, it reminds me that he is still little...just not as little as I might hope. Grape jelly Uncrustable, check. Circle cheese (also know as babybel), check. Fruit and veg (also known as go go-squeeze), check. Then he looks at me with that, is-she-going-to-say-no kind of look and asks about the minion crackers. Sure. What the hey, go for it kid. Preschool lunch packed and ready to go. There's something about a good thunderstorm. The way the thunder rumbles the floor beneath you and the sky lights up unexpectedly with a flash of lightning. Of course, I only like it from the inside. I don't want my boys to fear a thunderstorm but rather be in awe of it. We sat at the front door tonight, watching the pouring rain, hearing the rumble of the thunder and the crack of the lightning. They did pretty well and managed to convince themselves that it wasn't so bad. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
Mother's day. Honestly, it doesn't always go the way we plan, but I am certainly grateful it ended on a high note. A Baseball game, baby's missed nap and an hour wait that was too long for us. It turned out much differently than I would have thought. And I would be lying if I said that we stayed calm and no one lost their temper (namely me). But through all the craziness there were bright spots with hand picked jewelry, chocolate-banana-marshmellow milkshakes and a game of peek-a-boo under the table. And even though it wasn't how I had imagined my day as a princess, there is no place I'd rather be. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
May 9th Part I : It was a 2 part kind if day. We spent the morning outside, doing work around the house while the boys played in the water table. Whoever invented the water table is a genius. The boys love and can spend hours playing with it. I had to chuckle when they pulled the chair up, put their feet in and continued to play...well that and drink the water. I tried to convince him how disgusting it is but he would hear nothing of it. Part II. In the evening we went to Bearden's for dinner and took a trip to Huntington Beach to scout out the location for an upcoming engagement shoot. The boys loved the sand and wanted to stay longer. Another day with swimsuits, buckets and shovels.
There's a new mailman in town. Ok, maybe more like mail delivery man. I may shelter him a bit but I haven't let him get the mail for us until now. I always worry about the box being at the road. He is a super cautious kid but, you know, I just worry. A couple weeks ago, I let him fetch the mail but cautioned him to watch the road and not go near the box until there is no one coming (both ways). I have to chuckle now when I watch him. He stands at the sidewalk, looks both ways multiple times, scurries like a mouse to the box, looks both ways once more and then grabs the mail and gets out of there. If he gets to the box and sees a car 3 blocks down the road, he runs back to the sidewalk and waits for it to pass. The best part is how disheveled the mail is in his arms. Mail scattered on the driveway and crinkled in his big boy hands. He always goes back for it but it seriously makes me grin. Love him. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
Somehow I have time traveled back to my college days. Tonight was like cramming for a test during finals week. I might even consider it an "all nighter". Accept my wake up call that morning (after less than 3 hours of sleep) wasn't my alarm. More like a tiny human fussing on the other end of a video monitor. This lovely computer. A gift from my husband and family for my 34th, was my pal. That and a cup of coffee to keep me awake. I think I should name her by now since I spend so much time with her. Editing, perfecting, organizing...pouring over thousands of images already. I made my deadline. The 611 photos of beautiful smiling faces from my school portrait sessions were complete and ready for ordering from the mums and dads who were waiting ever so patiently. I wish I could share some images, but not just yet. That is a post for another day. Canon 5DIII || Sigma 35 ART
I am steak and potatoes girl to the core. Sunny warm day, husband at the grill, kids running around the deck; it doesn't get much better than this. I have been waiting somewhere in the ballpark of 233 days for this moment. Give or take a few. Canon 5D III || Sigma 35 ART
I spent my evening with my bestie as we talked about our lives, families, and the grown up decisions we make these days. Your 30s are so much different than your 20s. With little people in our lives, our choices seem to mean so much more. And we are blessed. Both of us. Amazing husbands, beautiful healthy children and wonderful choices afforded to us that we should never take for granted. I made it home just in time for the end of the bedtime routine and I took just a minute in the hall before I stepped into their little world with daddy this evening. { Big boy little's } clothes are laid on his bean bag chair for the next day, their Itty Bitty's are in a basket on the bed, and I hear the mumblings of a familiar story as { baby little } sits in his lap, and { big boy little } is nestled at his side. This is what it is all about. Spending time with these two little beings that are ours for the moment, until they have lives and stories to tell of their own. There's is nothing more beautiful than right now. I need to remind myself of that more often. iPhone 6
It was school portrait day at { big boy little's } school this time. I had such a blast with all the adorable chubby faces, smiles and even the quiet looks. Some sat down with big grins, long coached to smile for the camera. Others were unsure of this new person with lights and backdrops and large round reflectors. I liked the challenge of capturing their different moods and genuine smiles. This is my little's smile. A genuine sweet smile. Happy picture day. Canon 5D III || Sigma 50 ART
It's baseball season. It started weeks ago but this was the first time I could capture it because my dad was the baby wrangler this time. Daddy is the coach this time. They are the tigers and this is their roar before the game. He's a good coach. He builds them up and encourages them. I adore this about him. Canon 5D III || Canon 70-200

What now?It truly is a labor of love each day to search for just the right image(s)...the ones that represent our daily lives...edit them, organize them, write about them. What a wonderful experience and an amazing amount of growth this year for me. It has been a great journey but one I am not jumping into again just yet. I am going to take a breather, let the dust settle and let inspiration find me and lead me to my next project. For now, I will continue to post about our lives but only when I feel it.
