Sometimes the little surprises can be the most exciting. After dinner we ordered them to put their shoes on because we were going on a mini adventure. It was only to the wooden playground next to the library, but they were giddy. {Big Boy Little} loved it all and was proud of the things he can do now that he is 1 year older and 1 year stronger since the last time we were here. And { Baby Little }, he enjoyed it all but the drinking fountain may have been at the top. Yep, it's the simple things that make them happy. Fujifilm x100

I can't tell you how many of our evenings end will kids swinging upside down, wrestling, running and giggles. Life with boys. Canon 5DII || Sigma 35 Art
If I wrote a book about good parenting, this image wouldn't make the cover. Or would it? I always feel I walk the line between what is safe/right/appropriate for my boys versus what is fun, makes his smile and makes him feel proud. No, this probably isn't the safest idea, but it certainly was something that made him smile. Over and over again. Canon 5DII || Sigma 35 ART
After an afternoon of shooting a wedding, it can be hard to pick up my camera to capture our daily lives. My body is tired and it would be easy to turn on a movie and veg as a family. But it is a beautiful day, and being outdoors is better for these buggars than the screen. Bike riding, baseball and some mulch reorganizing. Yep, definitely a better choice. Fujifilm x100
What kid doesn't like playing with sticks around the fire? Or better yet, learning how to cut firewood with your Pawpa. { Baby little } was napping so { big boy little } had Pawpa and daddy all to himself. He even managed to sucker them into some marshmallows. Canon 5DIII || Sigma 35 ART
The woodworking/building gene comes honest to him. Pawpa has been a builder since before I was born. I remember the sound of his drills in the basement, the smell of saw dust and the beautiful pieces of woodwork he created. He has made beautiful wooden toys for my boys. And at Christmas this year, there were two wood kits wrapped under the tree from his Pawpa...and today he was eager to finish the last one. Fujifilm x100
We have been members of the museum of natural history since { Big Boy Little } was 2. It is the perfect little adventure. Dinosaur bones, earth quake simulations, traveling exhibits and a pint size dinosaur dig. And it's certainly the perfect spot for a playdate with friends. Canon 5DIII || Sigma 35 ART
They reorganized the flower beds with mulch and dirt spread onto the lawn. One dirty little baby. No better place to clean up than the kitchen sink. Canon 5DIII || Sigma 35 ART
We took our boys to the zoo, my friend and I. They enjoyed themselves although I think they enjoyed climbing fences, peering into sewage grates and running around the trees, just as much as they enjoyed the animals. Happiness is happiness though. Although we joked about how we could have taken them on a walk in the neighborhood and they would have enjoyed it as much, it made me start to think...maybe there is something for me here. Maybe its a gentle reminder to slow down and enjoy even the most simple things.
It's a grainy, slightly fuzzy iphone pic, but it's us. I wanted a family selfie for today because, well, today was a significant day for our family. It was my last day of work as a counselor. Life is going so quickly and this is my attempt to slow it down for all of us. No more running around crazy trying to squeeze our lives into the few moments between bedtime and dinner. So here's to new beginnings and the adventures to come. iPhone 6 || Fuji x20

What now?It truly is a labor of love each day to search for just the right image(s)...the ones that represent our daily lives...edit them, organize them, write about them. What a wonderful experience and an amazing amount of growth this year for me. It has been a great journey but one I am not jumping into again just yet. I am going to take a breather, let the dust settle and let inspiration find me and lead me to my next project. For now, I will continue to post about our lives but only when I feel it.
