And as tradition goes, { the L family } joined us for the evening. And the perk of halloween being on a Saturday night...the kids stayed up late playing games, toys and watching halloween movies.
I was giddy when { big boy little } liked my idea for his costume this year. He's watched the movie a couple dozen times over the last two years....and just like his mama, he's a fan. And in order to stay with the 80s costume theme, I talked { baby little } into being Ice-man. They loved it and snagged more loot than any kid couple possibly need. I always contemplate letting them eat until their bellies hurt and finished the whole pot, but instead I ration it out and it lasts until Christmas. They walked the neighborhood like little rock-stars, because of course, all the parents like myself, know the 80s...a connection to their own childhoods. I cannot tell you how many people laughed and cajoled with the boys...the best costumes of the night.

Pumpkin carving took a new turn this year. Yes, it only took { big boy little } 5 years to touch the pumpkin guts. And although we got a little fancy this year with the designs (ok, they were premade paper patterns), both boys had a part in the carving. And thanks to my new tripod, I was in the shots! It was another Thursday morning at library class. The boys like to explore and choose books each week. The train table that { baby little } adores is out for repair so it forced him to find other ways to play. iphone 6
It was first girls date since we quit our jobs and became stay-at-home-mamas. We went to the art musuem. I have lived here for 12 years and I have never been. How is that? The Monet exibit was the highlight and until you see Reflections of Clouds on the Water-Lily Pond in person, you cannot truly appreciate the vastness of the piece. I am not an art buff but I was truly in awe. And the texture. It took everything in me not to close my eyes and touch it. Feeling what it must have been like to paint it. But today was about more than art...it was friendship. It's not possible to have a better friend. Canon 5DIII || Sigma 35 ART
They piled the couch cushions into the toy area between the couch and the wall. It is a pool, they tell me. For almost 2 hours we were in and out of the pool, looking for coral and fish. I am in awe of their imagination. Canon 5DII || Sigma 24 ART
It wasn't always this way. In the last year they have becoming tiny tornados. Moving from one adventure to another so quickly that their minds can barely keep up. Evening clean up is for our sanity. All the brightly colored plastic is giving me heart palpitations just looking at the image...I crave some order. Some days I can look away. And then there are days that I feel like I'm drowning in it. Thank goodness for the after and the empty space. More space to wrestle in too...I call that a win win for everyone. 5DII || Sigma 24 ART
Some days it's hard to get my shot. I get to the end of the evening and I'm waiting for something new to unfold to add to the list of moments that make up our daily lives. Somehow inspiration is always there if I look hard enough. Of course it is a phone shot...no amazing photo skills here, but I loved the moment. He is in his towel but otherwise naked, sitting on the counter that we have all been sharing as the master bathroom is getting a new floor. Daddy is trimming his nails and he's looking at himself in the mirror. I wonder what he is thinking. His full toddler cheeks and round baby belly. I love all the details and the quiet of this little moment before bed. iphone 6
We went to the Boys Hope open house. It had been years since I had been there and we were both amazed at what the program has become. The boys enjoyed playing corn hole, eating cookies and carving a pumpkin. I hope that we become more active in the coming year. It is a great way to give back for what it has given to Jason..and to us. iphone 6
They're counting. It's part of this game we play in the front yard. Each time we play the rules change, bend or it becomes more complex. I chase them around the yard as they try to get to the safe zone (any spot with mulch). They work together as a team to keep each other safe..{ big boy little } pulling me back to keep me from grabbing his brother. If I catch them, they sit on the step until the count of 10 then they are back into the game. It's simple but they love it....and I love their giggles as they run. Win-win I'd say. Two friends. Havin a snack. We can do this, you know. Mid week playdates...because we both took a risk...my bestie and me. Leaving our jobs..taking a risk. Creating more balance in our lives and being the ones with our babies, everyday. And neither of us have had an ounce of regret. Canon 5DII || Sigma 24 ART

What now?It truly is a labor of love each day to search for just the right image(s)...the ones that represent our daily lives...edit them, organize them, write about them. What a wonderful experience and an amazing amount of growth this year for me. It has been a great journey but one I am not jumping into again just yet. I am going to take a breather, let the dust settle and let inspiration find me and lead me to my next project. For now, I will continue to post about our lives but only when I feel it.
