It was a first for many...for our friends, { baby little } and my sister. Daddy was out of town for work so I was happy to ask Kiki to join us. We didn't tell { baby little } until we were standing in front of the train and we didn't tell { big boy little } that his bestie was coming. I love surprises when I can actually keep myself from spoiling them. The tickets, cookies, hot cocoa...the conductor punching their tickets...the elves. They loved it all. We rode through the north pole and they blew the elves kisses. And Santa...of course the big guy is always a hit. It really was perfect...the only thing missing was daddy.
Daddy was out of town so we got to work making art for his office. The boys used various paints to create their canvas masterpieces. { Big boy little } requested an image of santa from my phone for him to draw from. I am always amazed at how well he does with this. { Baby little's } abstract piece will be sure to catch your eye as well!
We started swim class a week ago. We get in the water and I am amazed at how brave he is. He only hesitates once or twice and from a distance you probably couldn't even tell. His head under water, sliding down a falling into the water, kicking to the edge and holding on...he did it all. The kids in the class have 5 weeks on him but it was like he had been there the whole time. It amazes me how the 2nd child gets his bravery from the first. He watches his brother conquer new things and doesn't give them a second thought. Tonight I got in the water again with him but since it wasn't possible to capture this myself, after bath I pulled him onto the step next to our tub and asked him to show me his flutter kicks.
Oh Santa...these boys believe you are the bees knees. No tears from these guys...just sheer excitement and awe. They waited in line to look at your face up close and sit in your lap. Sure they spoke of their Christmas wishes, but most of all, it was about getting a chance to steal a second with you. We visit the most perfect santa. White as snow beard, soft voice, caring words...everything Santa should be. Thanks for making it magical for my boys as they walked hand in hand to be with you.
We are lucky to have this amazing display, right here in Strongsville. We go each year...walk the neighborhood all decked out to perfection. We ooh and ahh at the lights choosing our favorite displays.
He wrote his Christmas list to Santa. He is in Kindergarten, learning letters and sounds...and of course, as his mama I am impressed. He knows a couple dozen sight words but to start trying to write words on his own...dude...it's kinda amazing. Watching him soak up what he is learning and want to use it...to write. So his list... 1. Bed La (was the beginnings of) Big Lego Spaceship 2. Dus cleo: Dust cleaner (yes, my kid asked for a cleaning set for Christmas) 3. Ptado Clok: Potato Clock.
He's a good boy, Santa. He's earned it. He had a perfect calendar this month. He has had since he started school...except this was the first month with no warnings. He's a good boy. And like the months before I suggested a family ice cream night to celebrate but this time he negotiated up. Well played kid. Well played. He requested candy and a spy kit. So we ran to Target before Hip hop and the kid picked out his reward. This wasn't some crappy set of goggles or something. Oh no. A night vision headset, a rotating spy mirror and a voice recording pen. Crack my shit up. I love it.
I was sick today. I thought I had somehow skipped the bug he brought home from school, but alas I was on the couch most of the day. And today I'm grateful. Grateful that my boys can watch movies and lay low when I'm down and out. And even more than that, how { big boy little } lends and hand and takes care of his baby brother. Bringing waters from the kitchen and uncrustables from the freezer. He pulls puts his bib on him and rolls his sleeves. I'm not sure { baby little } knows how lucky he is. To have a brother like this. I sure know. How lucky he is.

What now?It truly is a labor of love each day to search for just the right image(s)...the ones that represent our daily lives...edit them, organize them, write about them. What a wonderful experience and an amazing amount of growth this year for me. It has been a great journey but one I am not jumping into again just yet. I am going to take a breather, let the dust settle and let inspiration find me and lead me to my next project. For now, I will continue to post about our lives but only when I feel it.
